Professional Assistants - Library Recruitment at IIM, Bangalore

Principal Accountabilities & Responsibilities:

A) Acquisition & Technical Services:

  • Assist the section in charge with:
    • Reviewing policies and procedures and recommending to the library committee for approval.
    • Keeping track of the latest developments in collection management, including assessment, subject expertise, and pricing models.
    • Innovating in metadata management: open linked data, indexing in searching platforms, and enabling discovery in utilities and indexes.
    • Identifying and developing benchmarks for evaluating strategic directories in collection management, allocating and managing acquisition funds.
    • Collecting, compiling, and analyzing extensive data on collections and transactions for informed decisions on collection development.
    • Using software such as Virtua, Koha, Coral, ERMS, Libinsight CMS, Libwizard, Libanswers, SUMMON, Lean Library, Best Bets, RemoteXs/MyLOFT.

B) Electronic Resource Management:

  • Assist the section in charge with:
    • Organizing digital library collections and databases by tagging, cataloging, and creating metadata using industry-standard software.
    • Establishing policies regarding copyright laws and fair use of copyrighted materials.
    • Analyzing user needs to recommend improvements or develop new digital library services.
    • Maintaining an inventory of digital library resources.
    • Conducting research to identify new technologies related to digital libraries.
    • Providing reference assistance and developing training materials.
    • Participating in community events to promote the library’s digital offerings.
    • Developing policies and procedures for managing digital library collections.
    • Using software such as Remote Access, Discovery Services, Best Bets, Full Text Finder, Quick Finder, Libwizard, Libanswers, Subject Guides, Dspace.

C) Digital Library Services:

  • Assist the section in charge with:
    • Services for Faculty and Doctoral Students:
      • Obtaining permissions for HBS Cases & other materials, interlibrary loan, archiving faculty research, copyright assistance, orientation sessions, data retrieval/literature search, faculty purchase requests, data acquisition and licensing, subject bibliographies on demand, data retrieval from financial databases, new accessions & recommendation bulletins.
    • Services for Students:
      • Assignment/project assistance, one-shot orientation, hands-on training on special databases, tutorials on searching platforms, company and industry research, remote/off-campus access, library tours, new accession bulletins, article and literature search, borrowing and interlibrary loan, guides on locating information, new accessions.
    • Using software such as Remote Access, Discovery Services, Best Bets, Full Text Finder, Quick Finder, Libwizard, Libanswers, Subject Guides, Dspace.
D) Circulation and Patron Services:
  • Assist the section in charge with:
    • Stack maintenance, weeding out old newspapers and magazines, sending emails to faculty, managing interlibrary loans, organizing displays, ensuring user queries are addressed, creating user guides and FAQs, collecting and depositing fines and fees, creating and updating patron records, tracking attendance and processing invoices, sending damaged books to the bindery, compiling statistics, managing space bookings, footfall tracking, transaction logs, tracking user queries, and external membership.
    • Using software such as Virtua, Koha, Coral, ERMS, Libinsight CMS, Libwizard, Libanswers, SUMMON, Lean Library, Best Bets, RemoteXs/MyLOFT.
Key Skills and Ability Requirements:

A) Acquisitions & Technical Services:

  • Knowledge of collection development policy, technical processing, managing gifts and donations, cataloging and classification, statistical reports on budgets, and usage of resources including eBooks.

B) Electronic Resource Management:

  • Knowledge of electronic resources lifecycle, managing budgets, licensing, metadata, bibliographic utilities, open access trends, technology, link resolver, metasearch, discovery services, cloud computing, proxy access, text and data mining, protocols and APIs.

C) Digital Library Services:

  • Proficiency in library technologies (Dspace, Discovery, A to Z CMS, LibGuides, Proxy server, ILS, FAQs), electronic resources, access and privilege of e-content, library websites, digital preservation, copyright, union catalog, other IT tools.

D) Circulation and Patron Services:

  • Experience with membership patron records, self-checkout kiosk configuration, borrowing and renewals, guiding users to web resources, interlibrary loan network, resource location, and inventory and stack management.

Qualification and Personal Profile:

  • Postgraduate in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation Science from a recognized university/institute with proficiency in computerized library services.
Compensation:
  • Equivalent to Level 5, fixed based on IIMB Contract Appointment Rules.
